{ Green Tip #4 }

This is a good one for this time of year!

This will probably be a really hard one for you if you're used to sitting in your car with the heat on in the cold :)

Green Tip #4: Just 10 seconds of idling your vehicle consumes more energy than is used to restart the vehicle.

{ Green Tip #3 }

I know it's hard to imagine a world without fresh drinking water, because we have it right at our fingertips, whenever we want it.

But here's something to think about... North Americans use as least twice as much water per person as anyone else in the world. By 2025 (only 17 yrs away!) the world will have to increase it's water supply by 22% in order to meet its current needs. Meanwhile, 40% of the drinking water we use is flushed down the toilet!!

Here's something easy you can do: Take A Shorter Shower! (Even by 2 minutes!)
If everyone shortened their showers by 2 minutes every day, over one year it would equal almost 3 times of the amount of freshwater drawn from the Great Lakes every day. (The Great Lakes are the world's largest source of freshwater). The amount of water you use in 2 minutes is more than the average African person would use in an entire day. Something to think about.

Another easy thing you can do is make sure you turn off the tap while your brushing your teeth. So many people leave the tap running while they brush their teeth.. which results in so much fresh drinking water completely wasted!!

See how simple it is? I challenge you to at least try to take shorter showers this week.. once you get used to it, you won't even notice the difference, and you'll feel great because you are making a difference.

{ Green Tip #2 }

Washing your car in a commercial car wash is better for the environment than doing it yourself!

Commercial car washes not only use WAY less water per wash (up to 100 gallons less), but they also recycle and re-use rinse water.

If everyone did this just one time, up to 8.7 billion gallons of water could be saved, and 12 billion gallons of soapy polluted water could be diverted from rivers, lakes, and streams.

Hmm... looks like I need to head to the car wash...

Yup. Thats me. I am not ashamed!! :)

I'm reading a few good books right now that have some really easy things you can do (or not do) to be more environmentally friendly... so I thought I'd share some of my favorites...

The first tip comes from this book:

So here's Tip #1:

Don't ask for ATM receipts. If everyone refused their receipts, it would save a roll of paper more than two billion feet long, or enough to circle the equator fifteen times!

Stay tuned for more!
